Artist Biography

Bloodlights is a hard rock band formed in Oslo, Norway in 2006. You'd think ten years of broken guitar strings, cramped fingers, and cold hotel rooms would be enough to make any rocker at least consider taking a break from his chosen profession. Not Captain Poon. It took him "about two seconds" to realize what to do after his seminal hard rock outfit Gluecifer broke up in 2005: start another band. That new band is Bloodlights. The name comes from the phenomenon of seeing red flashes right before passing out after consuming too much "of everything." It is especially common in colder regions, such as Scandinavia and the Yukon, where excessive consumption of everything is often mandatory just to make it through the night. With Bloodlights Poon stepped into the role as both vocalist and guitarplayer. Joining him in this new musical endeavor are bassist Ron Elly, guitarplayer Howie B., drummer Jonas Thire who got replaced May 2007 by Nico. Early critics have tagged the band as rough but melodic, but the boys don't tend to think about a particular sound when they're writing. As long as it's got power and soul, it's Bloodlights. In January 2007, after more than a year of songwriting, and hundreds of hours spent in their rehearsalroom in Oslo, Bloodlights went to a studio in Berlin to cut their debut record. Ex-guitarist of Monster Magnet, Phil Caivano was brought in to produce the album. Captain Poon describes the recording as the most interesting and focused sessions he's ever been through. "Phil was an amazing guy to work with, and he brought in the extra baggage that we needed. The songs were pretty much done, but some extra structure and a proper sound was what we were looking for, and Phil knew how to get it. Even though it was a tough session, working 15 hours a day for three weeks, it was a lot of fun." Shortly after the band was done with all the tracking, the record got mixed by rock'n'roll virtuos Mike Fraser (Ac/Dc, Metallica, Aerosmith) at the Warehouse in Vancouver. During the spring and summer of 2007 Bloodlights will be performing in Norway, Germany and Spain, and the self-titled album is set for release in the fall. Captain Poon says. "Me and the guys are ready to work our asses off. Eventhough I've made a lot of fans and done a lot of cool stuff with my former band Gluecifer, I know noone will be knocking on our door just because of my past. We gotta get out there and prove that Bloodlights is a hot-shit rock'n'roll act, and that's exactly what we're doing these days."
