User Album Review
Dave East didn’t make an EP of one-note songs. On “Perfect” Dave teams up with Chris Brown for a song that is very obviously aimed at female listeners. “My Dirty Little Secret” is a heartbreak song in the same vein. To borrow a phrase, you can’t rap about dope forever. With a debut album (likely) not that far off in the near future, Dave East has started to work on his mass appeal.
Collaborations with French Montana and Wiz Khalifa will only help grow his fan base. The Wiz track (“Phone Jumpin”) in particular has the Trap beat and bars that have spelled success for many a rapper.
Ultimately “Paranoia” is a solid EP. If I’m being honest though, I thought Dave East had already released an album. It’s been seven years since he released his first mixtape. Like many of the mixtapes before this EP, “Paranoia” shows tremendous promise. Clearly Dave East is a good storyteller and a versatile rapper. We’re just waiting to see him put everything together in album form. This is another good tidbit to digest while you wait. ---- Reviewed by lemonwire.com
